Telling Your Story: John 9:1-12 Daily Devotional
As Jesus walked along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. His disciples were curious and asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” Jesus responded, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
Jesus’ answer was unexpected. He did not blame the man or his parents for his blindness. Instead, he saw an opportunity for God’s glory to be revealed. Jesus then declared, “We must carry out the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.”
With those words, Jesus spat on the ground and made mud from his saliva. He applied the mud to the man’s eyes and instructed him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. The man obeyed, and as he washed, he regained his sight.
Can you imagine the awe and wonder the man must have felt as he opened his eyes and saw the world for the first time? He went back to his neighbors and those who had known him as a beggar. They were astonished and asked, “Is this not the one who used to sit and beg?”
Some doubted, saying, “No, but he is like him.” But the man himself insisted, “I am the one.” When they asked him how he received his sight, he recounted how Jesus made mud, spread it on his eyes, and told him to wash in Siloam.
The man’s testimony spread, and people wanted to know where Jesus was. But the man did not know, for Jesus had slipped away. The once-blind man’s life was transformed by Jesus’ miraculous act of healing. He went from being a beggar to a witness of God’s power and love.
This story reminds us that sometimes, we may face challenges or difficulties that we do not understand. We may wonder why certain things happen to us or others. But Jesus teaches us that God’s works can be displayed even in our most challenging circumstances.
Just like the man born blind, we may not always see the purpose or meaning behind our struggles. But Jesus, the Light of the world, can bring healing and transformation into our lives. He can turn our trials into testimonies and reveal God’s glory through our stories.
Let us trust in Jesus, the One who can open our eyes to see beyond our circumstances, and empower us to share our stories of faith, hope, and restoration. May we carry out the works of God in our lives, being witnesses of His love and grace to those around us, just like the once-blind man who boldly proclaimed, “I am the one.” Dedicated2Jesus

John_9.1-12 NASB
As Jesus passed by, He saw a man who had been blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 We must carry out the works of Him who sent Me as long as it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world.” 6 When He had said this, He spit on the ground, and made mud from the saliva, and applied the mud to his eyes, 7 and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he left and washed, and came back seeing. 8 So the neighbors, and those who previously saw him as a beggar, were saying, “Is this not the one who used to sit and beg?” 9 Others were saying, “This is he,” still others were saying, “No, but he is like him.” The man himself kept saying, “I am the one.” 10 So they were saying to him, “How then were your eyes opened?” 11 He answered, “The man who is called Jesus made mud, and spread it on my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to Siloam and wash’; so I went away and washed, and I received sight.” 12 And they said to him, “Where is He?” He *said, “I do not know.” New American Standard Bible
