A New Creation In Christ

In Ephesians 4.17-24, Paul urges us to leave behind our former way of life and embrace the new life that is available to us through Christ. As Christians, we are called to walk differently than the Gentiles who are in the futility of their minds and excluded from the life of God. We are not to be darkened in our understanding or hardened in our hearts. Instead, we are to be renewed in the spirit of our minds and put on the new self, which is created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

The call to be a new creation in Christ is not just about changing our behavior. It is about a transformation of our entire being. We are called to be renewed in our minds, to have our understanding enlightened, and to be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. When we become new creations in Christ, we are given a new identity, a new purpose, and a new hope.

The old self, which is being corrupted by the lusts of deceit, must be put off. This old self is marked by callousness, indecent behavior, and greediness. But we are not to be defined by our old self any longer. We are to be defined by our new self, which is created in the likeness of God. This new self is marked by righteousness and holiness of the truth.

We must rid ourselves of the old self and put on the new self, not just once but continually. It is a daily choice to live in the newness of life that Christ has given us. We must allow the Holy Spirit to transform us from the inside out, renewing our minds and conforming us to the image of Christ.

As we embrace our new identity in Christ, we are filled with a sense of purpose and hope. We no longer live for ourselves but for the one who died for us and rose again. We are part of a new community of believers, united by our faith in Christ and our desire to live for Him.

Let us, therefore, embrace the new life that is available to us in Christ. Let us put off the old self and put on the new self. Let us be renewed in the spirit of our minds and walk in righteousness and holiness of the truth. May we be a new creation in Christ, shining His light to the world around us. Ephesians 4.17-24

17 So I say this, and affirm in the Lord, that you are to no longer walk just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their minds, 18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves up to indecent behavior for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness. 20 But you did not learn Christ in this way, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, 22 that, in reference to your former way of life, you are to rid yourselves of the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you are to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
